Legacy Baseball and Softball Tryout Format

  1. Introduction Meeting (5 minutes)
  2. Warm-ups (15 minutes)
    • Warm-ups to be done independently
    • Playing catch with a partner to get loose and ready
  3. Baserunning (8 minutes)
    • Home to 1B and Home to 2B runs
    • Each athlete takes a swing and runs while times are recorded
  4. Hitting (25 minutes)
    • Divide athletes into three groups: BP, Exit Velocity, Fielding
    • BP: 10 pitches per batter
    • Exit Velocity: 5 swings
    • Rotate groups
  5. Outfield Throws (15 minutes)
    • Pop-ups and grounders from right field
    • Field properly and throw home
  6. Infield Throws (15 minutes)
    • Shortstop ground balls: 3 regular, 1 backhand, 1 slow roller, 1 regular
    • First basemen throw to third base after rotations
  7. Catching Pop Times (10 minutes)
    • Catchers receive 5 throws and throw to second base
  8. Bullpens (25 minutes)
    • 15–20 pitches total
    • Fastballs, changeups, curveballs
    • Radar used on fastballs
